Play & Study

To investigate historical chess & AI related puzzles as part of our curriculum, we have developed two tools:

play.shatranj.ai is the main tool where you can play with historical chess icons and chess pieces, including the Şahî 3D pieces and 2D icons. Here you can analyze positions from both modern chess and historical chess (shatranj). Modern chess analysis can be conducted with Stockfish AI, while for historical chess (shatranj) we offer Fairy-Stockfish engine and also an experimental, much weaker, shatranj engine based also on Stockfish. We have also incorporated PGNs and FENs from the two most important historical chess books Libro de axedrez, dados e tablas and Kitab ash-Shatranj

editor.shatranj.ai is the secondary tool in our curriculum, which is used to inspect custom board sizes on historical puzzles such as Horse Tour and 8 queen. It also supports historical chess fonts including Alfonso, Arabic, and Şahî.
